Players of the Week
Wilmington outfielder Dee Brown and Myrtle Beach right-hander Jason Marquis have been named Baseball America Carolina League Players of the week for the period April 15-21.
The left handed hitting Brown batted .300 (9 for 20) for the week, with four homers and two doubles for a slugging percentage of .833. He drove in 10 runs and posted an on-base percentage of .400. His power surge started April 18th when he hit for the cycle in a 20-3 win at Myrtle Beach and continued with a pair of homers in a 4-3 win at Kinston. His total of seven homers and 20 RBI through April 21st leads the minor leagues. Brown, 21, who resides in Orlando, FL, was selected by the Royals in the first round (14th overall) of the 1996 draft.
Marquis, 20, resides in Coral Springs, FL, was selected by the Braves in the first round (35th overall) of the 1996 draft. For the week he posted a 0-0 record pitching 10.0 innings and striking out 11. He stands 6-1 and weighs 185. Last year at Danville (CAR) he posted one complete game 135 strike outs.
